Key features

  • B2B database of over 240 million contacts and 30 million companies, with search filters and lookalike accounts
  • AI list building from plain-language requests and lead prioritization using real-time web data
  • AI writing assistant that drafts full emails or single sections, personalized with company news and matched to brand voice
  • Multi-step sequences across email, calls and tasks, with follow-ups triggered by prospect behavior
  • AI meeting prep, call and email analysis, and an AI chat assistant for account research

Pricing

  • Free — $0 — light use for exploring the platform, with a small allowance of credits that reset each cycle
  • Basic — $49/user/mo billed annually — email sequencing and core integrations for individual sellers
  • Professional — $79/user/mo billed annually — higher credit limits, AI features, call recording and advanced CRM integrations
  • Custom — price on request — custom volumes, SSO, advanced admin controls and dedicated support
Good fit for

Small and mid-sized sales teams that want prospect data, AI-written outreach and sequences without buying separate tools.

Look elsewhere if

Teams that need consistently accurate mobile numbers at volume, since phone lookups use many credits and users report gaps in contact data.

How it scored

  • AI outreach & personalization: 90/100. Its AI covers research, list building, email drafting and behavior-based sequences, giving it one of the broadest AI toolsets on the page.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 90/100. Its large built-in database covers email and phone with warm-up and mailbox tools, though users regularly report outdated contact details.
  • Value: 80/100. Paid seats start low for a combined data and outreach tool, but expiring credits and costly phone lookups raise the real cost.
  • Privacy & reliability: 70/100. Third-party AI providers may not train on customer data and must delete it within 30 days, but Apollo may train its own models on usage data with no stated opt-out.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 90/100. Reviewers often rank it first for sales prospecting, and users rate it highly across thousands of reviews.

Our verdict

Apollo.io ranks first: it combines a large contact database, AI that researches leads and writes personalized emails, and multi-step sequences in one tool at a low entry price. Users regularly report outdated contact details, and phone lookups and expiring credits push up the real cost.

Pros
  • Database, AI writing and sequences in one platform
  • Low entry price compared with enterprise sales platforms
  • Broad AI help, from list building to meeting prep
Cons
  • Users report outdated or inaccurate contact details
  • Phone numbers use many more credits than emails
  • Unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle
Things to know before you buy:
  • Credits are pooled across the team and granted at the start of each billing cycle; unused plan and add-on credits expire and do not roll over.
  • Add-on credits renew automatically each billing cycle until removed, and annual plans cannot be downgraded mid-cycle.
  • Monthly billing costs more per seat than the annual prices shown, and credits also pay for email warm-up, domains and mailboxes.

Key features

  • Waterfall enrichment that combines more than 200 data providers to fill in emails, phone numbers and company details

  • Account Agents that work across whole account segments with persistent memory
  • AI-written email copy based on company news, job postings and other signals
  • Signals such as job changes and web intent, plus a native sequencer for multi-touch email campaigns

Pricing

  • Free — $0 — 100 data credits and 500 actions per month, unlimited seats, Claygent, tables up to 200 rows
  • Launch — $185/mo, or $167/mo billed annually — 3,000 data credits and 15,000 actions per month, phone enrichment, job change signals, email campaigns
  • Growth — $495/mo, or $446/mo billed annually — 6,000 data credits and 40,000 actions per month, CRM auto-sync, HTTP API, web intent signals, domains and mailboxes for the sequencer
  • Enterprise — price on request, annual contract — custom credit volumes, SSO, role-based access and data warehouse syncs
Good fit for

Teams with an operations-minded owner who want to build custom prospect lists and research-driven personalization at scale.

Look elsewhere if

Solo sellers or small teams that want a simple, ready-made prospecting and sending tool without setup work.

How it scored

  • AI outreach & personalization: 90/100. Its AI research agents and signal-based personalization are among the most flexible on the page, though building workflows takes skill.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 90/100. Combining many data providers gives broad email and phone coverage, and a native sequencer with mailbox purchases now covers sending.
  • Value: 70/100. Unlimited seats help larger teams, but paid plans start high and heavy enrichment uses credits fast.
  • Privacy & reliability: 70/100. It says customer data is never used to train its or its AI providers’ models and holds SOC 2 certification, but it has had several service problems in 2026.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 80/100. Reviewers often recommend it for lead research and enrichment, and users rate it highly.

Our verdict

Clay ranks second: its AI research agents and enrichment from many data providers let teams build highly targeted, research-driven outreach, and it now includes its own sequencer. It takes real skill to set up, paid plans start high, and it had a two-week enrichment slowdown in late 2026.

Pros
  • Pulls data from many providers in one place for wider coverage
  • AI agents can research details that standard databases miss
  • Unlimited seats on every plan
Cons
  • Steep learning curve for building tables and workflows
  • Credits and actions can run out quickly on large lists
  • Paid plans start well above simpler outreach tools
Things to know before you buy:
  • Billing is split into data credits for provider lookups and actions for running workflows; extra data credits on Launch and Growth cost more than plan credits.
  • Buying domains and mailboxes for the built-in sequencer starts on the Growth plan.
  • Enterprise plans require an annual commitment.
  • Price change: Clay introduced new plans on March 11, 2026; existing self-serve customers could keep their plans, while Enterprise contracts move to the new pricing at renewal.
  • Outage: From September 17 to October 1, 2026, Clay reported degraded performance for its person enrichment and signal runs.

Good fit for

Founders, agencies and sales teams that send high volumes of cold email from many mailboxes and want simple, flat pricing.

Look elsewhere if

Teams that want LinkedIn and phone steps in the same sequence, or one plan that bundles sending, data and AI.

How it scored

  • AI outreach & personalization: 80/100. AI agents that answer replies and source leads add real automation to strong sequencing, though reviewers note the advanced AI costs extra.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 90/100. Unlimited mailboxes, built-in warm-up and a large lead database with verification make it strong for email volume, though it is email-first.
  • Value: 80/100. Flat pricing with unlimited accounts and users is good value for sending, but data and AI credits add a second bill.
  • Privacy & reliability: 80/100. It publishes a data processing agreement and a list of sub-processors, though its public terms do not detail how its AI features use customer content.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 90/100. Reviewers regularly include it among the top cold email tools for scaling, and users rate it very highly.

Our verdict

Instantly ranks third: it makes high-volume cold email simple, with unlimited mailboxes and warm-up at a flat price, a large lead database and AI agents that can find leads and answer replies. It is email-first, and lead data and AI agents are billed on a separate credits plan.

Pros
  • Unlimited sending accounts and warm-up on every paid outreach plan, with no per-seat fees
  • Users and reviewers praise how quick it is to set up and run
  • AI agents can handle replies and source new leads, with optional human approval
Cons
  • Lead database and AI agents are billed separately through credits
  • Focused on email, with no built-in LinkedIn steps in sequences
  • Some users find it expensive once add-ons are included and say some features are missing
Things to know before you buy:
  • Outreach plans and credits plans are separate subscriptions; finding leads and running AI agents draws on credits, at 5 credits per lead or reply for the AI agents.
  • The uploaded-contacts limit is usually reached before the monthly email limit; extra outreach volume is an $87/mo add-on.
  • You need your own sending domains and mailboxes, which should be warmed up before campaigns start.

Good fit for

Sales teams, agencies and founders who want AI-personalized sequences that combine email and LinkedIn in one place.

Look elsewhere if

Large teams on a tight budget, since the Multichannel plan is priced per user and data credits are an add-on.

How it scored

  • AI outreach & personalization: 90/100. Its AI builds multichannel campaigns, researches leads and personalizes messages, and reviewers highlight how it turns lead research into usable personalization.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 80/100. A large lead database, waterfall enrichment, deliverability alerts and the widest channel mix among cold email tools, though data credits cost extra.
  • Value: 70/100. The Email plan is fair for unlimited users, but per-user Multichannel pricing and paid credit add-ons raise the cost for teams.
  • Privacy & reliability: 70/100. It holds SOC 2 Type II certification and names its AI providers, but had a major outage of about 20 hours in April 2026.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 90/100. Reviewers often recommend it for deliverability and multichannel outreach, and users rate it highly.

Our verdict

lemlist ranks fourth: it shares the top score on this page for AI outreach, building personalized campaigns that mix email, LinkedIn, calls and messaging apps. Per-user pricing on its Multichannel plan, paid enrichment credits and a long outage in April 2026 keep it just behind Instantly.

Pros
  • Email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS and WhatsApp steps in one sequence
  • AI builds full campaigns and pulls research into personalized messages
  • Reviewers praise its deliverability tools, including warm-up and domain health alerts
Cons
  • Multichannel plan is charged per user, which adds up for larger teams
  • Enrichment credits and buying signals are paid add-ons
  • Users mention a learning curve and higher cost than simpler tools
Things to know before you buy:
  • The Email plan covers unlimited users, but the Multichannel plan is billed per user and allows 5 senders per user.
  • Base plans do not include monthly enrichment credits; the add-on gives 2,000 credits, which covers roughly 400 emails or 100 phone numbers.
  • Some AI features run through AI providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic, and lemlist says some AI features use an OpenAI account you link.
  • Outage: On April 8, 2026, lemlist reported a major outage that lasted about 20 hours.

How it scored

  • AI outreach & personalization: 80/100. Its Duo AI researches prospects, drafts outreach for approval and helps with replies and calls, which reviewers describe as genuinely useful.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 90/100. It pairs a large, regularly refreshed database with email, phone and social channels and built-in warm-up and spam checks.
  • Value: 60/100. The bundle replaces several tools, but the annual-only starting price is high for small teams.
  • Privacy & reliability: 80/100. It holds SOC 2 Type II certification, though its privacy policy does not say whether customer data is used to train AI models.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 80/100. Reviewers include it among leading cold email and AI SDR tools, and users rate it highly.

Our verdict

Amplemarket ranks fifth: it bundles a large refreshed database, buying signals, AI research and drafting, and email, phone and social sequences with built-in deliverability tools. Its annual-only pricing starts high, which makes it hard to justify for small teams.

Pros

  • Covers email, phone and social outreach with a native dialer
Cons

  • Some users report gaps in data quality
Things to know before you buy:

  • Email and phone reveals each use 1 credit and enrichment uses half a credit; extra phone credits cost $0.50 each.

  • Agency — from $210/mo — unlimited clients and users; AI SDR from $500/mo per client
Good fit for

Teams that want email, LinkedIn and calls in one sequence tool and may add an AI SDR later.

Look elsewhere if

Buyers who want a large built-in contact database, or an AI SDR that works well without setup and tuning.

How it scored

  • AI outreach & personalization: 80/100. It runs broad multichannel sequences and offers an AI SDR that writes and replies, though testers found the AI needs careful tuning.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 80/100. Unlimited mailboxes, warm-up and five channels are strong, while its included contact data allowance is small.
  • Value: 70/100. Entry plans are moderately priced, but add-ons and a separately priced AI SDR raise the cost, and one tester found it pricier than rivals.
  • Privacy & reliability: 80/100. Its AI policy says it does not use customer data to train general AI models and requires its AI providers not to either, and AI features can be switched off or set to require approval.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 80/100. Reviewers regularly include it in cold email and AI sales tool lists, and users rate it highly for ease of use and support.

Our verdict

Reply.io ranks sixth: it runs sequences across email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS and WhatsApp with unlimited mailboxes, and offers an optional AI SDR that writes and replies. Testers found the AI SDR needs careful tuning, and LinkedIn, calling and the AI SDR all add to the price.

Pros
  • Email, LinkedIn, SMS, WhatsApp and calls in one sequence
  • Unlimited mailboxes and warm-up included on email plans
  • Users praise responsive support
Cons
  • Testers say Jason AI needs substantial prompt tuning to avoid generic messages
  • LinkedIn and calling cost extra on email plans, and the AI SDR is priced separately
  • Some users report a learning curve and occasional sequence glitches
Things to know before you buy:
  • Email plans include only 50 live data credits a month, so most contact data must come from elsewhere or extra credits.
  • Prices are per user; LinkedIn ($69/mo) and Calls & SMS ($29/mo) are add-ons on email plans.
  • Jason AI SDR plans start at $500/mo and are priced by the number of active contacts.

Teams that need advanced AI agents that reply to prospects or run outreach on their own.

How it scored

  • AI outreach & personalization: 70/100. Its AI writes full sequences, creates variants and enriches prospects for personalization, but it has no autonomous reply or prospecting agent.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 80/100. A large lead database with waterfall enrichment, unlimited warm-up, sender rotation and pre-send deliverability scoring cover the basics well.
  • Value: 90/100. Low prices with lead finder credits, warm-up and AI included make it one of the cheaper ways to start, though the entry plan is tight.
  • Privacy & reliability: 80/100. It holds SOC 2 Type II certification, though its privacy policy does not explain how AI features use customer data.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 80/100. Reviewers recommend it for teams getting started with cold email, and users rate it well.

Our verdict

Saleshandy ranks seventh: it is one of the most affordable ways to start cold outreach, with AI sequence writing, warm-up and lead finder credits on every plan. Its AI writes and enriches but does not reply to prospects or prospect on its own, and the entry plan’s limits are tight.

Pros
  • Lead finder credits, warm-up and AI sequence writing included on every plan
  • Users find it easy to set up and use
  • Pre-send deliverability scoring flags spammy wording before campaigns go out
Cons
  • Starter plan caps prospects and emails at levels that growing teams outgrow quickly
  • AI focuses on writing and enrichment, with no autonomous agent for replies
  • Users mention limited features and email management challenges
Things to know before you buy:
  • Lead finder credits cost 1 per verified email and 6 per phone number, so phone lookups use credits quickly.
  • Starter allows 1 user and 10 email accounts; unlimited email accounts start on Pro.
  • Saleshandy sells sending mailboxes at $3.49 per mailbox per month (billed quarterly) and domains at $14 per year if you need them.

  • AI outreach & personalization: 80/100. Its AI agents research accounts, personalize messages and support deals on top of mature multi-channel sequences, though it is built for structured enterprise teams rather than autonomous prospecting.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 70/100. It covers email, calling and tasks well, but it has no contact database of its own, so lead data depends on other tools.
  • Value: 60/100. Prices are not published, contracts are annual and independent guides place it at the expensive end, with data tools often bought on top.
  • Privacy & reliability: 80/100. It holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, 27701 and 42001 certifications and runs its AI on Microsoft Azure OpenAI, though its public policy does not say whether customer content is used to train AI.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 80/100. Reviewers include it among the leading sales engagement platforms, and users rate it well while noting cost and complexity.

Our verdict

Outreach ranks eighth: its AI agents for research, personalization and deals sit on top of mature multi-channel sequencing built for larger sales teams. It has no contact database of its own, prices are not published and reviewers place it at the expensive end.

Pros
  • Mature multi-channel sequencing with calling and email tracking in one place
  • AI agents for research, personalization and deal management included in every plan
  • Covers coaching, deals and forecasting as well as outreach
Cons
  • Pricing is not published and reviewers describe it as among the costlier options
  • No built-in B2B contact database, so lead data usually comes from another tool
  • Implementation and admin effort are higher than with lighter outreach tools
Things to know before you buy:
  • Plans combine per-seat access with an allowance of AI credits; extra credits can be bought.
  • Independent pricing guides report annual contracts as standard, with no monthly option or free trial.
  • Contact data and enrichment are usually bought separately, which adds to total cost.

Look elsewhere if

Teams that want AI to write and personalize their outreach or run LinkedIn-led sequences.

How it scored

  • AI outreach & personalization: 70/100. Its AI sorts replies, assists with campaign setup and automates routine tasks, but does less to research prospects or write personalized messages than leading rivals.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 80/100. Unlimited mailboxes, inbox rotation, warm-up and private servers support heavy sending, with a lead finder and dialer as extras.
  • Value: 80/100. Low entry prices and unlimited mailboxes give good sending value, though agency add-ons add up.
  • Privacy & reliability: 80/100. It names OpenAI and Anthropic as its AI providers, though it does not explain in detail how its AI features use customer data.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 70/100. Users rate it well overall, though it appears less often in expert lists than the leading cold email tools.

Our verdict

Smartlead ranks ninth: unlimited mailboxes, inbox rotation and agency tools make it good value for very high sending volumes. Its AI focuses on sorting replies and automating tasks rather than writing personalized outreach, and add-ons raise the cost.

Pros
  • Unlimited mailboxes and warm-up on every plan, with no long-term contract
  • Strong tools for agencies, such as client workspaces and private sending servers
  • Low entry price for the sending volume included
Cons
  • AI is lighter on writing and personalization than outreach-focused rivals
  • Many add-ons, such as client workspaces, servers and placement tests, raise the real cost
  • Some users report slow support and billing problems
Things to know before you buy:
  • Client workspaces cost $29/mo each, dedicated servers $39/mo each, and placement testing $49–$599/mo.
  • Verified-email credits are an add-on on Base and Pro ($59/mo) and included from Unlimited Smart upward.
  • You need your own domains and mailboxes, or can buy them through Smartlead at $4.50–$9 per mailbox per month plus domain fees.

Price: Pricing on request

73.0

Key features

  • Cadence for multi-step email and call sequences with email tracking
  • Rhythm, which uses AI to prioritize each rep’s next actions
  • AI agents and conversation intelligence that capture insights from calls
  • Deals and Inspect tools for pipeline review, plus Clari Forecast
  • Analytics and native Salesforce integration

Pricing

  • All plans — price on request — quotes are given after a call with sales
  • Platform modules — price on request — Cadence, Conversation Intelligence, Deals, Rhythm, Analytics, Clari Forecast and Inspect
  • Existing customers — unchanged — the company said the Clari merger did not change existing contracts, pricing or renewal dates
Good fit for

Established sales teams, especially on Salesforce, that want disciplined cadences with call and pipeline insight.

Look elsewhere if

Small teams that want published prices, a built-in contact database or features such as inbox rotation for high-volume cold email.

How it scored

  • AI outreach & personalization: 80/100. Cadences and AI-prioritized next steps help reps run structured outreach, though users say the AI sometimes lacks account context.
  • Lead data & deliverability: 70/100. It handles email and calling well inside cadences, but it has no contact database and users note missing domain rotation.
  • Value: 60/100. Prices are not published and the platform is aimed at larger teams, so cost is hard to judge before a sales call.
  • Privacy & reliability: 60/100. It holds SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certifications and lets admins limit AI features, but its Salesforce integrations were switched off for about ten days in 2025 and some users saw multi-day CRM sync delays in September 2026.
  • Expert & User Ratings: 80/100. Reviewers place it among the main sales engagement platforms and a very large number of users rate it highly.

Our verdict

Salesloft ranks tenth: users rate its cadences, AI-prioritized next steps and Salesforce connection highly for structured sales teams. It has no contact database, prices are not published, and CRM sync was interrupted for days at a time in 2025 and 2026.

Pros
  • Cadences that users say make follow-ups easier to organize
  • AI prioritization of next steps through Rhythm
  • Strong Salesforce integration, with call insights and forecasting in the same platform
Cons
  • Pricing is not published
  • Users report missing cold-email features such as domain rotation
  • Users report integration issues, and CRM sync has been interrupted for days at a time in 2025 and 2026
Things to know before you buy:
  • Pricing comes only from a sales quote; plan names and seat terms are not public.
  • After the Clari merger the company said there were no planned forced migrations and that existing contracts were unaffected.
  • There is no built-in B2B contact database, so lead data comes from a separate provider.
  • Outage: From August 28 to September 7, 2025, Salesloft’s Salesforce integrations were switched off, pausing CRM sync for customers for about ten days; in September 2026 some users also saw CRM sync delays lasting several days.

How to Choose

Start with your biggest bottleneck

If you lack good leads, look first at tools with a strong contact database and enrichment; if you have leads but struggle to write and follow up, a sequencing tool with good AI writing matters more. Teams that want to hand off whole steps can look at AI agents, but most still need a person reviewing what goes out.

Test the contact data before you commit

Contact accuracy is the most common frustration users raise, and outdated emails lead to bounces that harm your sending reputation. Use a trial to pull a list in your own market and check how many emails and phone numbers are actually right.

Protect your deliverability

Cold email only works if it reaches the inbox. Look for warm-up, sending limits, inbox rotation and email verification, and plan to send from separate domains and mailboxes rather than your main company address.

Work out the real monthly cost

Plans are priced per user, per mailbox, per contact or by credits, and data lookups, AI agents, LinkedIn steps and dialers are often extra. Add up seats, credits and add-ons for the volume you plan to send, and check whether the best price requires an annual contract.

Check how it fits your CRM and channels

Make sure it syncs reliably with the CRM you use and covers the channels your buyers respond to, whether that is email, LinkedIn, phone or text. A tool that fights your existing process will cost more time than it saves.

Keep a person reviewing the AI

AI-written messages can sound generic or get details wrong at volume, which can hurt your brand and your domain. Start with small batches, review drafts before they send and read how each tool uses the data and emails you give it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an AI sales assistant do?

It helps with the repetitive parts of outbound selling: finding and researching prospects, writing personalized emails and LinkedIn messages, scheduling follow-up sequences and sorting replies. Some tools add an AI agent that can run these steps on its own, while others act more like a writing and research helper for your reps.

Can an AI SDR replace a human sales rep?

Not fully, according to most reviewers. AI agents can research leads, send first-touch messages and answer simple replies at volume, but users often report generic messages and need to review and tune them. Most teams get better results using these tools to give reps more time rather than to replace them.

Do I need a separate email domain for cold outreach?

It is strongly advised. Sending cold email from your main company domain can damage its reputation if messages are marked as spam. Most outreach tools expect you to set up secondary domains and mailboxes, warm them up and keep daily sending low.

Do these tools use my emails and data to train AI?

It varies. Some vendors say they use usage data to improve their own models, while others say customer content is not used for training or name the AI providers that process it. If this matters to you, read each tool’s AI and privacy terms and ask for a data processing agreement.

How are these different from email marketing tools?

Email marketing tools send newsletters and campaigns to people who signed up to hear from you. Sales outreach tools send one-to-one style messages to prospects you have researched, with follow-ups and reply handling, so we rank email marketing tools on a separate page.

How We Evaluated

Every Flickthru ranking follows the same five-step process, applied the same way to every product on the page.

  1. Market scan: We gathered the 27 platforms recommended across current expert reviews, buyer guides and verified-user ratings, then shortlisted the 10 that best fit this category and offer their own built-in AI.
  2. Evidence gathering: For each shortlisted product we collected features, plans and current pricing from the vendor, alongside the strengths and weaknesses reported in recent expert reviews.
  3. Risk checks: We checked every product for recent price changes and service reliability. Anything relevant is summarised in the product’s Detailed Analysis and reflected in its score.
  4. Scoring: Each product is scored against the five criteria in our Evaluation Methodology using the same rules for every product, and the Flickthru Score out of 100 combines them. AI outreach & personalization, the main job these tools do, counts most. Value is judged on what the paid plans deliver for their price. Each product’s Detailed Analysis explains how it scored on every criterion. Each criterion is scored from 1 to 10, where 8 means good, 9 very good and 10 excellent.
  5. Editorial independence: Rankings are decided by Flickthru’s editorial process alone. Placement cannot be bought.
